Gigi Trattoria is a charming restaurant in the historic centre of Lucca in Piazza del Carmine in front of the Carmine Market. A dependable, consistent restaurant, like a trusted craftsman, where the guest is greeted with warmth and courtesy as soon as he enters the relaxed family atmosphere.
Tradition and familiarity are the rule in this place, where tradition does not mean the same dishes, but specialities from the family recipe collection: tripe, Lucchese tortelli with sauce, "farinate", lasagne, fried chicken and rabbit, chowder and Livornese-style salt cod and many other long-forgotten flavours.
Founded in the 1950s, it was purchased in 2002 by three young Lucca natives: footballer Michele Tambellini, Natale Mancini and the current manager Carmine Mariniello alias ''Nino''; the restaurant has recently been renovated which has made it even warmer and more popular destination for Lucca residents. (tables are all fully booked on the weekends)
A small, but well-stocked wine cellar offers only Lucchese wines (and for that matter, only local olive oil is served here), while the cooking is supervised by Leo Fabbi (former "buatino"). Guests are greeted by waitresses and a courteous hostess who approaches each table with a welcome and the query: << Can I bring you white or red?>>.
